How egg donation works in San Diego

Egg donation in San Diego runs through two programs. In the Fresh Matching Program a donor is matched with one family and travels to that family's IVF clinic, which for San Diego intended parents means the donor comes to you, and for San Diego egg donors means a trip to the parents' clinic with travel covered. In the Frozen Egg Bank donors complete a retrieval at our Newport Beach partner site and the eggs are frozen for families to select later, shipped directly to clinics in San Diego and throughout the United States. A dedicated case manager coordinates every step for both sides.

For intended parents in San Diego

Growing your family with donor eggs should feel supported from the very first step, and that starts with keeping the doctor and clinic you already know. When you use donor eggs from Donor Nexus, you keep your San Diego fertility clinic and physician, and you can choose any donor from our egg donor database of more than 500 profiles, no matter where she lives. If you choose our Fresh Donor Matching Program, we arrange and cover your donor’s travel and handle the logistics so she can complete her cycle at your clinic. If you choose the Frozen Egg Bank, the eggs are retrieved and stored at our partner site in Newport Beach and shipped directly to your clinic. Many of our donors live in Southern California, and each profile lists the donor’s location if you would still like someone closer to home.

Fresh Matching Program fees start at $29,600, which covers donor compensation, travel, and agency, legal, and screening costs. A cohort of six eggs from our Frozen Egg Bank ranges from $19,500 to $29,500. You can compare our donor egg programs and the cost of donor eggs side by side, register for free to browse profiles, or book a complimentary call and have all your questions answered by one of our case managers.

Fresh donor matching at your San Diego clinic

In a fresh cycle you are matched one-to-one with a donor, she travels to your IVF clinic for monitoring and retrieval, and you receive every viable egg from that retrieval. Donor Nexus fresh cycles average 28.9 eggs retrieved and 22.6 mature eggs. A fresh cycle usually takes four to six months from match to retrieval, with most of that time spent on donor screening.

Frozen donor eggs shipped to San Diego

Frozen donor eggs are available in cohorts of six and ship from our Southern California site directly to your San Diego clinic, usually within four to six weeks of paperwork and payment. Each cohort comes with the blastocyst guarantee described on the Frozen Egg Bank page, and shipments travel in a Cryoport dry shipper with continuous temperature monitoring.

For San Diego egg donors

Women ages 19 to 30 (exceptions considered for healthy applicants in their early 30s) with a BMI of 24.9 or under who are non-smokers can apply online, and you can read more about how to become an egg donor with Donor Nexus before you start. Screening labs and ultrasounds happen at a provider near you in San Diego. In the Fresh Matching Program you set your own compensation with no cap, and travel, lodging, and a companion's costs are all covered. Payment is held in escrow and released within five to seven days of retrieval.

Egg banking in San Diego

Egg banking means donating to the Frozen Egg Bank rather than to one family. The retrieval takes place at our partner site in Newport Beach, about an hour and a half drive from San Diego, with travel covered, and your eggs are frozen for intended parents to select later. Banking compensation is more standardized than fresh matching, with the opportunity to earn up to $20,000 per cycle, and it increases with each subsequent donation. Many donors complete both a banking cycle and a fresh cycle over time.
