Egg Donor Psychological Evaluation

Did you know that it is required for egg donors to complete a psychological evaluation?

What to Expect During Your Psychological Evaluation

The psychological evaluation is completed during the medical screening process and can be completed virtually or at your designated fertility clinic. You will first complete a PAI exam. PAI stands for personality assessment inventory. This consists of about 300 questions. It is designed to give insight into your psychological history and insight into your personality. The exam is simple and will take about an hour to complete.

It will have statements to which you respond if you agree or disagree. A statement you might see on the exam is “I make friends easily”.

You will then meet with a licensed practitioner to discuss your personal history – this step also lasts about an hour. The practitioner will ask you about who you live with, your education, and your current occupation. They will also ask you about your family relationships and how often you talk to them. Some other questions they may ask you are:

  • Who is your support system?
  • How do you cope with stress?
  • Are you comfortable with the egg donation process?

Once this is complete, the psychologist will prepare a final report. The report will state if you are an emotionally and psychologically appropriate egg donor candidate.
